After years of inactivity, I'm reviving my LiveJournal account as a meditation journal, among other things.

I posted a First Night photo set at Flickr. (I took some time to clean up and crop all the photos, which explains the delay in getting it up...)

At the moment I'm wondering what's worse, moving your physical presence to new digs, or moving your blog to a new server. Typical of my workaholic self, I spent yesterday working working working, though I had a nasty virus, and at various points during the day I was trying to puzzle through the Movable Type migration process. I was thrown by the need to back up the data from the old side and import it to the new. It was in Berkeley DB, and I was reading various comments via search that suggested there was no clean way to back up and move the DB, though it turned out to be a relatively easy process using MT's native export/import. I'm currently snagged on the upgrade from Berkeley to mysql, which doesn't have everything it needs at the new place. (The new host is Midas Networks, where by pal Chris Boyd is taking good care of me.
I also had a new post at Worldchanging yesterday: http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/005514.html
I haven't actually read the book I was posting about, but Fred was sending me a copy. (I was supposed to get a review copy, but the publisher ditzed on it.) The book's relevant - much of the direction of my later life was formed by the eclectic Whole Earth/Coevolution Quarterly stuff, and I would say Stewart Brand was a key figure for me...
Hello to Bazooka, who got me here years ago though I never quite got into LJ before now! It's also great seeing Honoria's art posts, and I've been dropping in here more often to keep track of my colleague Silona. I'm sharing her disappointment over the CraigsList Foundation's decision to put money into a database and not into a system that would provide broad support for nonprofits. No big deal, though, there's always other funding for good works....

My friend Bazooka invited me to create a LiveJournal, and I figured it was about time. I have a weblog (http://www.weblogsky.com) but no journalspace. Then again, I might just find myself blogging the same sort of things in two spaces. Interesting experiment, this.
